Grey cattle used to be the main export productof Hungary for centuries. Its black tufted tail, which was obligatory to keepas a trademark even on animals cut in half, indicated in every butcher’s shopthat the meat originated from the Carpathian Basin. Although modernization hadnearly wiped out this cattle of delicious meat, the species luckily survivedand about twenty thousand animals are recorded in Hungary today.
